CURRY ACCEL/ tips for getting accepted

Published

Hi everyone,

I am a 27yr old who has a double B.A. in Drama and Film/Television. Needless to say, I have to take a lot of pre-reqs before I can apply to the Accel program. For accepted students, do you have any idea what made admissions pick your application? Did you throw in some recommendation letters, do you have a lot of volunteer work?

I'm worried that I won't get accepted because when I apply I will still be working on my pre-reqs, even though they'll be done just as the program starts. Any advice would be greatly apprecieated, thanks!

...

Also, any insight on how the program is. I'm not necessarily scientifcally minded but I really want to invest in this new career path. Is anyone able to work AND take classes? Thanks again!

Hey Cwhowe,

Welcome to pre-nursing! I am currently a pre-nursing student myself and am waiting to receive an Acceptance/Denial letter sometime next week. :nailbiting: It is great that you have decided to come back to school after pursuing a completely different career path initially. I am the same age myself and am also a Post-Bac student, however, I had already taken a majority of the pre-reqs from my prior degree (BS Zoology). ~ Every school's Nursing program is different in terms of what they will require in order to apply (i.e. exact pre-req courses, +/- letter of intent, +/- letters of rec, etc.). I can say that Volunteer work is a great way to show your particular school(s) that you are serious about committing to Nursing, and it shows that you have taken the initiative to get hands-on experience on your own.

At the school I've applied to, I had to first be accepted as a 'pre-nursing' student before I could apply to their BSN program. This weeds out students that have

Currently I Volunteer at 2 different hospitals, am working part time and going to school full time. It's definitely do-able!!! Let me know if you have any other questions!:)

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

Moved to the Massachusetts State Nursing Programs forum.

Thanks so much for the info walke274. What do you volunteer as at the hospital, I haven't researched too much about hospital volunteering yet but I would suspect they would only let qualified/certified people volunteer at in a hospital setting. Thanks!
