Crap!

Just passed NCLEX last week (75 Q - yay!) and have been applying for jobs for about a month now. I've only had one interview....but then again I've only applied for one job. There aren't ANY to apply for! My parents are on my butt about it but what else can I do? I've been searching hospitals within a 60 mile radius. I check their websites every day. All hospitals in the area except one are on a hiring freeze.

My dad thinks I should put resumes out even to hospitals that aren't hiring for RNs right now. I'm not so sure about that.

The one I did have an interview for was about 2 weeks ago. I thought it went really well. I sent a thank you note, I made a call back 1 week later....but I haven't heard anything, not even a return call. It would be a great place to start and I know I could do the job well. The job is still posted on their website. Would it be too much to send them an e-mail early next week letting them know since the interview I have passed my test? Also, any overall suggestions on finding jobs?

I moved from where I went to college (Vegas) back home to the Midwest. It seems too early to consider moving to another state again but maybe I should if there are no jobs here...:o

My theory is if you send an email or go in person to try and secure the job you will only help your chances not hinder them. It may turn a no into a yes.

By all means send a note "to update your application and resume' " you are now a licenced nurse. As far as appling to hospitals that are not hiring- dosen't hurt but without special skills or experience you are just wasting paper. Have you thought of a geographic change. Look around in cities 150-200 miles from your current home. A 3 hr drive to visit family once or twice a mos isn't too much burden compared to having a nursing licence and flipping burgers. Once you get a year in, you will be a lot more employable if you choose to move back. Good luck!
