Corlopam

Just curious ... how many of your patient's are receiving Corlopam pre-op and intra-op, and do you know if it's maintained post-op for renal perfusion. One of our nephrologist's stated that Corlopam's efficacy is best when started before surgery instead of after. Any opinion's on this?

Hi,

From some of the reading that I've read on corlopam, the literature recommends that it (the drug) not be used for longer than 48 hrs. Since the drug acts primarily on renal and vascular beds - causing PVR to decrease, thus lowered BP, etc, etc. A neprologist that I asked at worked said the same thing...it is beneficial to start it before surgery and not really used as a maintenance drug after surgery...again, due to the recommendation of NOT using it for no longer than 48 hrs.

Great dog pic V.Kat-is he/she a visla or ridgeback-looks more like a visla-totally cool dog!!! We have just started using corlepam in CVICU (new doc) and I understand it is started by anesthesia during startup (lines, intubation etc) although since its new sometimes I've heard it gets missed and not started until after pt comes off pump...last case I had the pt came out with it infusing but at 0.5cc bec the team didn't know what dose to start-we are usually running it around 4-5cc it has been running for the 24-48hrs postop period. new drug working the kinks out...
