Consent based on trust? what does it mean?

Published

I am doing an evidence practice paper.

and while looking for how one of the study got it's consent.

it said on the bottom

"CONSENT BASED ON TRUST

. . .Granted the limits to the possibility of non-medical persons being fully

informed on medical matters, the real and effective basis of consent is not information

but trust."

what does it mean.. does it mean they didn't inform the patient at all? is that legal..?

This is the study:

Specializes in Maternal - Child Health.

This is just a guess...

The study involved detecting infections in IV catheters after removal from PICU patients.

Since the study did not in any way involve patient care or decision making, I'm theorizing that the authors "implied" consent to participate in the study, given that the parents had already given consent for the IV catheters to be placed.

Again, just a guess. Can your instructor shed any light?
