Confused about the job process...

I am graduating in May 2009 with my BSN. I am applying to some local jobs, but I would also like to apply to some jobs across the country in California. How would I go about doing that- would I even be hired? I am looking for a change and would love to move there.

I am also confused about the process- I understand I can apply now before I graduate. Should I do this over winter break, or wait a little longer? What do I put on application to indicate I am still in school? It seems most of the openings now for new grads are for Jan/Feb. When are the openings for summer usually posted?

Thank you- I am kind of on my own for this.
