We had a pt come into the ER with severe burns and we transported them to another facility that can properly care for them because we didnt have the resources to do so. My question is if we call the hospital to see how thepatient was doing can we get information from the staff because we are doing continous care or would that we a violation of HIPPA?

Hmmm...we have called hospitals to see how a resident is doing, but part of the reason was to prepare for the pt's return to our facility, as they have a bed hold. Most of those conversations happen between our social worker and theirs, who coordinate the transfers
The situation you're describing sounds like a HIPPA violation, as the facility you are at will not be continuing care.
Thanx 4 clarifying that 4 me!
