CNL to DNP

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I am currently in a Masters of Science in Nursing program and will graduate as a Clinical Nurse Leader. At this time I do not want to pursue advanced practice, but I do want to pursue further education. I have always wanted a doctorate. I currently know of two programs that have DNP options for students that are not advanced practice nurses - University of Southern Alabama and University of New Mexico. I was wondering if anyone else knows of any other programs related to DNP for someone who is not a nurse practitioner.

Old post, but you haven't gotten a response, so I figured I'd answer.

There should be lots. CNL includes the clinical coursework many post-master's DNP programs require.

University of Reno and University of Las Vegas both admit people with an MSN and appropriate graduate level clinical coursework.

A friend of mine has an MSN in education and is currently in a DNP program in Boise, ID. Not sure which school.

I know some DNP programs do require an advanced practice MSN, but in my research, that seems more the exception than the rule. So CNL seems to me to be a reasonable path.

Augusta University also offers a DNP program post-CNL. Augusta University also has its own CNL program. I am researching myself for alternative DNP programs post-CNL, so hopefully there will be more comments about additional schools.
