hi i just move to fort lauderdale recently in the north lauderdale area.I havent started working here as a cna, because im expecting end of next month. (yay!!) but since being here i noticed the price of living is VERY expensive.Coming from buffalo, ny where things are cheap, but anyway.I was wondering cnas here what hospitals or nursing homes have a good payrate that i can apply for?and with my 2+ years as a cna do you think i would be able to get hired in a hospital down here without ekg or phlotemony training? if not what programs can i apply to that can get me train in those areas. Thanks really appreciate it

Welcome there is a place in Miami called nursing unlimited they have training in both areas the phlebotomy is $600 and the EKG is $550. Miami is very expensive but the chances of getting into the hospital is very hard from what I heard. I just finished my boards for cna on June 2 so I'm currently lookn for a job as a cna while finishing my pre reqs for the bsn program. And congrats on your bundle that's on it's way I just had my daughter 2/25 and did the cna training while on maternity leave.

thank you i can't wait.that sounds cool but miami is a lil far for me.i was able to talk to my aunt she's a don so she was able to tell me about atlantic technical school.they have a program for both of those areas and it only takes 6 months.also broward general and memoral are a few of the hospitals that will train you if you don''t have these certificates already so im at ease now just alil anxious to start working.

Oh ok yea miami may be a lil far but its much quicker than the 6 months. Burin trying to get those under my belt and some my bsl training and I can start applying for jobs. I wish you luck!

your aunt is absolutely right; atlantic is an excellent school. atlantic also has two "sister" schools, sheridan and mcfatter, which offer 6 or 7 month patient care technician programs. i wanted to enroll in one of those programs myself but their schedule doesn't work for me right now. if the opportunity ever arises, i would enroll in one of their patient care tech courses in a new york minute.

the difference between those schools and nursing unlimited is that the first 3 schools really teach you and give you a thorough education. some of these places just take your money, show you a few shortcuts, and then you're on your own. atlantic, sheridan, and mcfatter, are known and respected in the community which means having them on your resume makes that resume stand out, and their career placement services are a lot better as well. so whatever time you put into those schools is well invested. good luck.

I am planning on moving to the fort lauderdale area in a few months. I need medical experience in order to enroll in pa school at barry university. I figured getting certified as a nursing assistant would be the quickest way possible to gain experience dealing with patients. I am looking for an affordable school near fort lauderdale. I understand mcfatter is a great school however their requirements for enrollment state that you must show proof of florida residency for the last 12 months. This does not work for me since i will be moving in june after i finish my bachelors in psyc from illinois. I need help finding a school that is relatively close to the area and not to expensive.

Any information is appreciated

thank you.
