CNA and prereqs at the same time?

One class, plus cna class, plus being a mommy was enough workload for me.

But tougher folks have taken more.

If you're considering a science class with lab, plus cna class, that would definitely be enough!

The cna class required very little outside study time for me.

thank you for the response. I was thinking about taking a math course and first aid/cpr course along with the cna course. I guess I am just not very sure of myself with being out of school since 1982.

Mom to four and survived a layoff? You don't give yourself enough credit! Obviously you're much tougher than you think! Take what you're comfortable with and don't be afraid to test the waters. I believe you will find the years between school have made you a better, more focused student who's ready to achieve whatever you set your mind to, with gusto! I am 41 and have not been in school since high school. I currently am laid off and staying at home with 4 kids. I am starting a CNA program in January and I need some pre-reqs for lpn school that starts in Aug. Can anyone give me some advise,. Should I take 1 or 2 pre-reqs while in CNA school or will this be to much?

Next semester I am taking A&P II lecture twice a week and an A&P II lab once a week, Sociology online, Communication twice a week a CNA lecture, clinical and lab once a week. Now, your 4 kids is double my load of 2 kids--and I am not saying "it can be done" based on my experience...well because I have yet to conquer it but I believe that it can be done. I have heard that the CNA classes aren't that hard and if you go to the CNA forum in the nursing student section you will get a lot of good advice as to how to manage. Someone else has also posted a full online CNA course for people to get ahead of class so maybe you can watch that at home when you have a moment to yourself....but even I know when there's kids involved finding that moment alone is hard. Depending on how often your CNA classes are I would say if they aren't as intense (like how mine are pretty laid back weekly) then you should be okay to take maybe 1 or 2. Perhaps you can take them online so you can still be at home with the kids? Also keep in mind that when you finish the course you will be certified to work as a CNA (--which there are a lot of job opportunities out there) and can work full time during the summer break so you are back and working again. Most people will also say that their experience as being a CNA prior to nursing school proved to be very valuable. It was also a long time for me since I had been in school but I am certain you will get back into the swing of things. Maybe adding the prereq's will help you get acclamated to getting back into the swing of things. I hope this helped you a little bit and I wish you a very happy holiday!
