I was cleared earlier this year by the Texas BON to sit for my NCLEX with very little stipulations. I recently was accepted into an ADN program as well so there is hope people. I know the despair that comes with wanting something so bad and having the feeling of maybe never achieving that goal.
I was convicted when I was 18 for felony theft that was almost 14 years ago. I also, had two misdemeanors on top of that. One was non-violent and the other was fist fight I had with another man. The later charge was my last charge dating back to 2008. I worked hard went to school and kept my hopes up even though several people said I couldn't. I did have lots of positive support as well.
The process is lengthy and can get a little pricey but if you're determined you can do it. The process of obtaining all of your court documents isn't that bad its just meticulous. After I sent in all my paperwork I was ordered by the BON to submit to a psychological evaluation and a lie detector test. Those combined ran me around $1500.
One suggestion I would've redone is I would've done all of this a lot sooner instead of putting it off. It took a total of about 8 months so the sooner is the better.
I hop this helps all of you folks who are feeling hopeless, there is hope you can achieve your goals.

What are your stipulations if you don't mind me asking.

Really glad you got your second chance, buddy!
Yeah, I'm curious about the stipulations as well.
Also, any idea what kind of roadblocks (if any) to getting a job you anticipate once you're done with your program?
I took criminology as part of my 1st bachelor's degree - this was a topic that we spent a good amount of time discussing. If someone has done their time/paid their dues, has shown they have moved on with life, why do we keep crapping on them for the rest of their lives? And then as a society, we're collectively shocked that these people who can only get jobs as part time dishwashers return to their respective crimes.
It really makes no sense.
So dive in to your program head first and kick its butt. Your age, life experience, and all of the hoops you had to jump through to get where you are pretty much guarantee you will be an amazing student.
Best of luck to you, man!
