Choosing the right program

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone,

I would like to hear current students and nurses' opinions and advises. I am going to graduate in June 2013, and I'm planning to apply to nursing schools at the end of this year. So hopefully I can get into a program and start when I get my bachelor degree. I originally wanted to apply for direct entry master's program for NPs, but I've come to realize that NPs are having a hard time finding jobs. In my area, many NPs were laid off; reasons unknown.

So now, I really don't know what to do. Many of the nurses I spoke with in a hospital where I volunteer told me that I should just go to accelerated Bachelor programs since more places are hiring RNs vs NPs.

One of my classmate got accepted into MSN CNL program. She also said that the nurses she spoke with advised her to not go into MSN NP programs. But she also mentioned that many nurses do not like CNLs as well.

So here I am, approaching my deadlines. I still need to take the TEAs and GREs. I plan to apply to multiple schools since I know it's competitive. But I want to know what I am getting myself into before I actually apply and waste my money and time. So please guys, let me know your advices, opinions, experience, etc. I would love to hear all, and everything that may be helpful.

Yours truly,

Pre-nursing student
