being in LPN school is definitely fast paced and you better get what they show you first time. I'm in one of the highest ranking/competitive LPN programs in the state and the main instructor is extremely hard in a good way, the hospital in this town will hire ANY person that graduates from this LPN program b/c they know...

Ok i practiced this on my husband and when i threaded the cathlon into his arm, blood was steadily oozing from the end. I dont think I occluded the vein far enough from the instert though. ok this is what i think i remember her saying...

get all ur stuff ready, we're checking off on 22 gauge spring loaded ONC IVs

she doesnt want us learning by using tourniquets

1. let arm dangle, tap vein to distend

2. clean area with alcohol

3. find vein, percuss a bit and clench/open fist

4. hold iv bevel up about 45 degree angle insert and then come almost parallel w/vein : just enough until flash of blood : start threading cathlon and then press button to disengage needle : thread cathlon all the way to skin : while occluding vein still attach hep-lock with tubing closed : tape down on hand to anchor : attach syring and flush IV : attach IV tubing (after primed) unclamp help-lock ..........well u also have to put the tegaderm on there also, etc... Inserting is my main concern

Ok when you attack the help lock, what keeps blood from coming into it? Im not finding a lot of good videos on actually explaining it better.

we are going to check off on one another and havent even practiced!!!

Im having problems finding veins.. teacher had us close our eyes, our arm dangle, clench fist and then feel for vein while eyes closed... said they are spongy feeling, bouncy, etc... said this is helpful when you cannot see a vein but need to draw blood from it.. My big vein i can feel do that but the smaller ones I cant.. I cannot find any vein that I cannot see.. we were told to visualize the vein but i cannot

thank you so very much for any help . I luv this site and it helped me pass my mandatory 100% pharm dosage math test...

wow really thought someone would have answered my post and gave me some insight but guess what...???

I done my checkoffs today and got my IV first time ... yay.. so stoked.

tomorrow is my last day until jan 11 and i have my peds final tomorrow morning . Half-way there
