CFRN Certification

Just wondering, my flight service is now requiring CFRN as part of their employment requirements....I know the BCEN recommends 2 years experience first but its not required, but curious to those who took it...How long were you a flight nurse before you took it? Is it more CEN based or CCRN based? Also does anyone know of any review courses in the Philadelphia area? Thanks

A review course is often hard to find. There is one coming up at the conference in Austin Texas on October 24. You may want to check out ASTNA.org to see info on the conference and the test.

Good luck this is a difficult test. From experience and being a CFRN I flew for 3 years before I took the test. You should be profecient in ICU, ER, trauma, peds, neonate, gas laws, safety and legal aspects.

Hope this helps. The ASTNA will also refer you to reference books, but there is nothing like good ol' experience.

Thanks, the flight service in question, which as a disclaimer, I may add, is very reputable in this area and is very well known...they are requiring it to be done within 6 months now..both for the nurses that are there and the new nurses they hire. There are no exceptions for either, and if the requirement is not fulfilled, you may be terminated. I unfortunately live on the other side of the US from Texas, and have a full time job plus a child on top of this, so travelling that far for a class right now is kinda out of the question. Thank you for your suggestions though, much appreciated!
