Can it be aquired??

I am a Hospital employee, I work at a 400 room full service Hospital, though I am not a medical staff employee, I am a support staff as they call it. I have a desire to be a RT no this isnt a RT VS. R.N. question My aunts are both charge nurses at the same one in NICU and the other in PEDs.So to the point the blood guts, poop vomit and pee can I aquire it or do you have to be not bothered by it before you even become a RT or Nurse The RT today let me watch her suction some nasty stuff out of some guy today and I did okay but I never been to a code blue or trauma room where you guys are holdin brains from fallin off the gurney stuff like that or having some old lady have diarreha pourin out while u guys are working on her.

I'm just curious if it's a taste u can aquire or a thing where u either have it or u don't ????

Since I've been in nursing school I've gotten a tougher stomach for sure. Some smells that really bothered me when I started, no longer make me queazy. However I think with most people theres at least one thing that they just don't like being present for. For some its the smelly diarrhea, others its the big green/yellow glob that was suctioned from a trach, snot, blood, the sight of bone, or the retching from someone who has nothing left to vomit up.

I think through school your stomach will toughen up, but to a point....you have to be mentally prepared for it, and ready to deal with it. Good luck with RT or RN school.

One easy trick is to breath through your mouth and not through the nose.

Personally I can take anything related to humans but I cant look at anything related to "animals".

It's kind of odd but any harm to animals makes me cry but with humans (which I guess is just an advanced form of monkey) I can turn a switch off and really handle anything, right down to people dying in my arms and family members crying on my shoulders.
