Butler Tech or Rets??

Published

Does anyone know anything about Butler Tech? or know anyone that went there for nursing? I have not been able to find out much info on them. I have heard positive and negatives about Rets.

It is such a big decision and I want to make an informed decision. I have read a lot of posts where people were very unhappy with thier school. I am so unsure of a lot of factors and don't really know what I need to be asking.

If anyone has any advice I would greaty appreciate it...

I have to say that there are a LOT of things about being a nurse that are very intimidating! lol

Where do you live at? If you can manage the drive to the dayton area then check into Miami Valley CTC adult ed LPN program...i went there in 2006 and graduated. their LPN program is GREAT! 39 out of 41 students passed the Nclex on the first try...the other two passed by their second try. I did the full time program and was done in 11 months. they also offer a part-time evening program as well.

The director of nursing there went to butler tech so i'd assume since she did such and amazing job at MVCTC that she is doing a great job at BT now! She started there in 07 and although she is a tough cookie and likes you to stay within standards to a T she made our program amazing so i would thing BT is to!

I have heard good and bad on Rets...my Mother in law is friends with one of the directors there and he freind told her that they are doing a lot better and their nurisng programs are doing well now. I dont knwo from experience nor do i know anyone that has graduated from there. i wont talk bad about a school i know nothng about. Check into all three and see how you feel about the cost of the education, the hours/days you woudl be going to class, and the pass rates from each program. Then make your decision. I feel liek nursing school is what you make of it reguardless of the school you go to!

good luck!

I am a rets student, and have many friends that graduated from there.

There LPN program seems to be doing great, the RN program does have some bugs, but HR at miami valley were I work said they are seeing a lot of improvement from their RN students.

I too have heard the horrible stories, but I looked into them and seemed to be the best fit for my family and I.

At rets everything is included, uniforms, NCLEX-PN fees, all of it. I looked into MVCTC and though their tuition was lower, it was because they didn't have all the fees in there. Basically at MVCTC you pay ONLY for your books and education, everything else is out of pocket, and since I am a mother of 3 and a wife the money might not always be there if I need it... at least at rets some of it was covered by financial aid and the rest by loans!

Good luck. Like the PP'er said, check out ALL 3!

actually there are no additional cost for MVCTC, uniforms books ect are all included. at least it was in 2006 when i went, WIA, and financial aid covered everything. it was like 11,000 total i think. i never paid any out of pocket expenses.

WOW! See when I called them they told me that I would have to pay for uniforms, testing fees and something else out of pocket!

I tried to get WIA, but you can't have any other student loans if you get that! I was totally bummed!

I like my choice though of going to rets, it's a pretty nice school.

But did you know miami jacobs is no longer accredited? I was shocked! I am glad I didn't go there!

wow you cant take loans with WIA any longer? that's a first i've heard of that... I lived in greene co, and they allowed me to take WIA, my grants, and i took out 4000 in loans...which covered everything 2 yrs ago. I do think though if you live in Montgomery county they do not allow you to have WIA and loans...i think i remember a girl in school telling me that...BUT mont. co WIA covered gas expensises and something else that greene co. did not.

Thanks a lot for all the input. I need to check into Miami valley because I heard they have some kind of thing going on with kettering medical regarding the RN program.

I may wait until Hondros starts being able to take federal aid because Iv head some really good things about them..

Anyone else heard anything?

I had almost decided to go to Miami Jacobs the day I found out about their accredidation... whew....

Could be different for me because I am in Montgomery county. Their policy is 'this is financial aid coming from the government'. That is flat out word for word what they told me in the little orientation I had to do.You can take private loans for the rest but no other state/federal help! I was so mad!

Rets also has a program with Kettering but it doesn't knock much off what you have to take to get your RN. It only knocks off 1-2 quarters! For a 11 or 15 month program. If your going to go to kettering i would look into just going in it their RN program. I knew I would go all the way with rets that is the only reason I went there.

Where are you located? There are many many nursing programs around, WSU, UD, Sinclair, Community hospital in springfield, Edison college, UC, just to name a few!

If you have the time and no real college experience I would say sinclair has an AWESOME program but I messed around did my paramedic and my associates in medical office management and now have NO classes to take while waiting for the nursing program to call me, I refuse to take yoga or something else waiting for them!

Good luck in whatever you decide!

MVCTC's program with Kettering is awesome! I have 4 people i graduated with that continued on right away. I would have done it myself but you have only 2 yrs from the time you graduate from MVCTC and my time is up already! I believe they had told us that there was a grant that would pay for most of the kettering tuition if you came from MVCTC. Not sure what it is now or how that works) MVCTC was very tough when i went in 06, we had to maintain an 80% on all our finals and it was pass/fail for clinicals BUT they did get a new director of nursing (she's an old co-worker of my MIL) but i'm not sure how much was changed for the curriculum and rules. I can tell you it was tough and it was a lot of info but the teachers and the clinical instructors were excellent and i wouldnt have gone anywhere else for my PN. of course i'm partial since that WAS my school..lol. I'm checking out Hondros' school of nursing for my LPN to RN and RETS right now to start this fall. So like i said before, check out all of the programs that intrest you and then make your decision. It's always better to be well informed than to regret your decision later on when it's too late to change your mind! =)
