BSN Nursing Programs in DFW?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I need some information on the BSN programs available in the DFW area. I am currently working on my prerequisite courses and wanted to find out more about the programs that are available in my area. I have looked at the different school's websites but looking to find out what it takes to be accepted & schools that have best post-grad employment rates.

My education background: I have a BS in Mathematics (GPA = 3.5) and 18 hours of graduate work (mostly in Education but have a 4.0 GPA for those classes). I spent 10 years teaching at the high school level and have spent the last 9 years in IT. I have taken the GRE and scored well on it (1300+) but I have no idea if any of this makes any difference when applying for nursing school.

I am enrolled in Dallas County Community College (Chemistry) & Collin County Community College (A&P 1) for the Fall semester.

Questions:

1. What kind of GPA are the nursing schools in this area looking for?

2. Would it be better to take the prerequisite science courses from one of the universities rather than the community colleges?

3. What are the post-graduation employment rates for the DFW area nursing schools?

4. What are the chances of an older (50 years old) student being accepted?

Thanks!

I can answer question number 2 for you. The universities that I talked to prefered that you take Patho and Pharmacology at their university. The A&P and Micro were fine to take at the community colleges. I had talked to University of Texas at Arlington and TWU. I believe Baylor University also has a program as well.

Good luck with your classes!
