Applying to CRNA school

Published

Hey, everyone! I just had a question and was seeing if anyone here had any suggestions or advice for me. I've been a nurse for 2 years. My first job was on a post intervention cardiac floor, mostly caths, ablations, pacemaker placements, etc. Ultimately, my goal is to become a CRNA but truthfully I have had a hard time getting into an ICU. Recently, I was offered a NICU position at a large, well known Level 3 unit. I took the position because I wanted a change from my old floor, I was really looking for something more challenging, and well because it's an ICU. My problem is that I would love to apply to CRNA school sooner than later and am in between deciding whether I should actively look for an Adult ICU position or get the most out of my NICU job that I have now. Honestly, I am enjoying it and learning a lot but obviously it is very limiting. I have my heart set on attending Barry, although I plan on applying to several schools. I called Barry and they told me they do accept NICU but they will take an Adult ICU applicant over a NICU applicant. That comment is what brings me to my current predicament. So all in all, can anyone that has been accepted to Florida CRNA schools, particularly Barry, give me any insight? I graduated second in my class with a 3.8, have a BSN, am currently taking chemistry (plan on taking up to orgo 1), hopefully can work towards CCRN this year, and still have to take my GRE. I was also wondering what my chances of getting in for Fall 2015 would be if I applied for this November deadline without having a full year in ICU (I would have a full year by the time the actual program starts) and without having my Orgo 1 grade back (since I would be in the middle of taking it in November).

Thank you all so much!
