Application of heat and cold

Here's a question regarding the application of heat and cold therapy. I've been taught not to apply heat or cold for more than 15 minutes at a time, but how long are you supposed to wait before reapplying the heat or cold?

depends what you are talking about. is this for a muscle, vein, or we leave cooling blankets on people for hrs at a time to reduce fever. but I think the main point is to make sure that you are looking at the skin every 15 mins to make sure that you arnt burning the skin. and if their arnt any complications put it back on if needed. but honestly I dont really remember what the text book answer is.
