ALF and number of nurses

I am getting so upset with my facility!

We have over 50 residents and only one nurse per shift. I feel like this is very dangerous yet the management won't hire even a part time nurse to help pass meds. The caregivers are only a few per shift and sometimes dont even show up to work and no one is called in, leaving everyone to do sloppy work and miss things constantly. The residents families are constantly complaining and although the DON tries to make them happy with lies and telling them there will be new procedures put in place, nothing is actually ever done. I don't see how its possible to only have one nurse to 50 residents? Is there anything that can be done? Who can I talk to? Does anyone else have this problem at their facility?
