I am currently a first year nursing student. I have heard quite a few bad stories about nurses fresh out of college. I was hoping experienced nurses could give a little insite as to what it really is like for a nurse right out of college. I look forward to hearing your advice!

First and foremost, don't believe everything you hear! Your attitude and professionalism go a long way. I found that if you start a job and act like you know it all and run the place, your responses will often be negative. But if you jump in eager to learn and have a positive attitude it helps. Now dont get me wrong, you WILL come across someone or a few people who think you know nothing or that new grads are "babies" or "fresh meat" again ignore it, have a positive attitude and submerge yourself in knowledge. Truth is a lot of new grads have the recent education make less errors etc etc. that's not to say an experienced nurse is bad or uneducated. My suggestion would be to enjoy what you do ignore the conflict and if someone is really harassing you for being a new Grad report it because it is considered bullying.
Keep your head up and eyes open. Don't sweat the small stuff and good luck in school!
Thank you for your comment. I am getting more excited about all the knowledge I am gaining. I will try to stay positive and ignore the people that try to make me feel negative!
I am glad :) you must always have your own back and try, I mean TRY not to let people change your attitude and quality of care.
You'll be fine :)
