Hello everyone,
- I currently graduated, and got my RN-BSN from CSULB.
- I have 2 years ICU experiences in a community hospital.
- My BSN GPA is 3.8; however my cumulative GPA is 3.4
I'm planning to take advanced physiology/pharm/patho to be more competitive. I'm not sure where to take these classes in South California. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you are trying to be more competitive for; are you trying to get into an MSN program? Are you trying to look more marketable for a different position?
My advanced patho, adv physical assessment and adv pharm were taken as three separate classes for my Masters.
It all depends upon what the admission department is interested in.
I would dislike taking those classes if I found out that I have to re-take them for different program requirements where I was trying to enroll.
My suggestion to you would be to seek out information from where you're trying to get to. Many times, the admission department will have suggestions as to where students should take classes if pre-requisites are needed.

hi r-Nurse,
Thanks for your response,
I want to take these classes, hopefully apply to CRNA schools two years from now. I know CSUDH offers Advanced Pharm/ Health Assessment; but not advanced Physiology.

Instead of taking more classes to become more competitive, can you try to working your ICU experience instead? I'm not sure how large of an ICU or what distribution the beds are, but more expansive ICU experience would also help.
Work in a level 1 trauma center, larger ICU with higher SICU patient volume, getting ACLS, PALS... Work with fresh CABGs, lung resections... Do you have your CCRN or other advanced certifications? Are you a charge nurse? How many swans, a-lines, central lines have you worked with? How many codes have you participated in? How many IVs have you put in? How many of your patients have you weaned off a ventilator successfully? How many have you had to emerge you intubate?
You our will probably have to retake any advanced patho/physio/pharm classes as part of the nurse anesthesia program curriculum. I wouldn't waste my time and money on that now, especially when a rich ICU background can make you equally, if not more competitive.
