accelerated BSN?

If you already have an B.A, would you have to take the RN route? Or striaght to BSN? I currently made the decision to go back to school for nursing (i'm 29) and I already have a B.A. and i was planning on going to accelerated BSN route, Do i have to start from scratch and go for an associates?

Hi chiqadee - I already had a BA when I went directly for my BSN. You don't have to have the ADN to go into a BSN program whether or not you have a previous degree. ADN or ASN (sometimes called 2-year degree programs) and BSNs graduate and all take the same exam to become an RN (NCLEX). Some folks with the ADN or ASN go on to get their BSN (to have more flexibility as far as jobs). Hope that's not too confusing.

As far as starting as out from scratch, according to what you received your degree in, you probably have received many of the credits you needed when you received your BA. My BA was in Communication Disorders so I already had the English, psychology, humanities, etc that was required. To get into the BSN program I just needed the Nutrition, Anatomy, Chemistry, Microbiology and a Statistics class (since I didn't take a higher level math class with my first degree). Not only did I need to take the science classes but I needed to do well enough GPA wise to get into the nursing program. (Check with whatever school you are thinking of going to for their requirements to get into their nursing school). Hope this helps. :)
