I may have already asked this on this forum, but I haven't received any responses, so I'll post again...

Our ED currently uses a dry-erase board to manage patient flow and we have been looking into a system that is based on the internet (sorry for my lack of technical jargon). It is http://www.patienttrak.net and to run it, all we need are some new large flatscreen monitors, can be running on it very quickly (it's already setup on-line), and only pay a small fee per patient recorded each month.

Questions:

1. Is anyone familiar with this system?

2. If so, what has your experience with it been?

3. Are there any drawbacks to using a computerized system versus a grease-board?

We are probably going to proceed with it at least on a temporary/trial basis, but any feedback/heads-up on any of these questions would be greatly appreciated!

We use a program called EDTRACKER...similar to the one you are talking about, except it is a little more eye pleasing...ours you can pull up each separate pod map or a static view, which is just the names and level ie smith, jane and then it will have a color w/level number inside for instance blue 5 for fast track or 1 red for resuscitation...When we use our map view if there is a pt in the room, it shows a person icon that is the same color of their level..if you move the arrow over it, it will give you the pts name, age and chief complaint...PRO's Its HIPAA compliant...i think you will see grease boards become a thing of the past soon...also, it makes it easier, not as much manual changing...We like it works well for us in such a busy ER...downside...it is a computer...computers crash from time to time...also we do have our occasional downtime in which the patients don't cross over...happens rarely, but something to deal with...It does have a cute little nurse with an IV pole icon being chased by a pacman looking thing through the pod map when the clock hits 53 after the hour...lol...its the little things that make me laugh..
