Gameplan for CRNA school

Hi.

I have wanted to become a CRNA for as long I can remember now. I failed one nursing class with a 74.67 my third semester. I know I am better then that, there was a lot going on with my family during that time but I'm not one for excuses, a D won't cut it for Crna school. My last semester I made straight A's and managed to bring my nursing gpa up to a 3.0 and my overall to about a 3.1 I accepted a job on a med surg/telemetry unit and here is my game plan:

1. Transfer to an ICU as soon as possible (>1yr) and absorb everything I can

2. Retake A&P II since I made a C, ratake chemistry, and take a biochemistry class (there are a couple of schools I've noticed that want that class).

3. Get my CCRN.

4. I'm also planning on taking a graduate biochem class and grad patho class to show the adcom I am capable of succeeding in grad classes

5. Do some volunteer work with an organization overseas just to stand out a little bit (and also because I've always wanted to go to a less fortunate country and help with healthcare)

I am looking to apply with about 5 years of ICU experience. I'm not in a huge rush, I just want to be able to get in, eventually. I want to apply to as many schools as I can to increase my chances. My only concern is since I have a whole degrees worth of credits my gpa won't increase by a whole lot. Can you guys offer any suggestions to boost my resume and help improve my chances?

Thanks

If you want to prove that the D that you got was just a fluke or whatever. I Would take some generic Masters level classes that would go toward your degree. Doing the higher level work should prove your point. Just MHO
