Hello all, I'm attending Collin College (in plano, TX) and just recently discovered that Math 1342 or Elementary Statistical Methods is not a requirement (or at least not listed) on the new requirements for AAS - Nursing. Its called a nursing innovation grant pilot? Can anyone care to explain what all this means?!?

And I also noticed that there are other core options that substitutes for Humanities 1301.

I'm currently in the program, my class was the first group to go through under the new grant. Basically, the state of Texas is trying to change all nursing programs to fewer credit hours, instead of an ADN program being 72 hours it will be 60. It helps a little when it comes to the pre-req's, but the majority of the hours were cut from the nursing program. Now that may sound great, but let me warn you, it doesn't mean less work and fewer hours, it really comes out to be the same amount of hours, you just get fewer credit hours for it. I have to take an extra class each semester to bump my hours up from 9 credit hours a semester to 12 because my scholarship requires 12 hours a semester. Another change is that instead of learning your skills over a year, you will now learn them in the first 8 weeks of the program. It's challenging learning so much in such a short amount of time, but it will help once you start your clinicals. Right now there are only a few schools in the state that have switched to this new program, but from my understanding the lawmakers I pushing to have all of the schools switch over in the near future. So now that I've said all of that, the classes that were dropped from required list you don't have to take them, but if you plan to transfer to a university for your BSN it's wise to go ahead and get them knocked out while your in community college.

Yes as NurseRebe2015 said, if you are going to get your BSN degree, you should still consider taking the courses that have been dropped from the RN program as you'll need them still for the BSN. I've applied for the Spring of '15 at Collin and it will be interesting to see how the process of selection will change with the new system.
