I have been accepted to the T Tech RN to BSN in spg. 2012. Just wondering If I can take a part time load because I work full time. A full time load of 5 classes looks too intimidating. Just wondering.

They strongly encourage you to do the full time work. I was concerned about that and raised that question with them before I went to orientation. I was assured they would work with me if I needed additional time/support for the different classes. I worked more than full time (4-12hr night shifts/week-by choice) while I completed their RN-BSN program. I really didn't have any issues with workload because I managed my time well. And I must say that the instructors at Tech were more available and supportive than those in my ADN-RN program. You just really have to pace yourself & make a calendar and stick to it. I've actually encouraged several other of my nursing friends to complete the program and they also were very successful in their efforts. Good luck! And by having to take the second semester during the summer you actually give yourself less work because there is less time so the instructors eliminate part of the usual course work load. (I started their program in Jan.'10 & finished in Aug.'10.) Let me know if you have any more questions I would be glad to offer any insight I can!

I have a question, or rather a few, lol.I still may have a few pre-requisites to complete before acceptance into the RN to BSN program, one of which happens to be Texas History/Gov't. I'm in Hawaii, so I have NO clue as to where I can obtain credits online for this course. Any ideas?Also, on another thread, it's been mentioned that the orientation on campus is mandatory. How long is the orientation, and what do they cover? I am seriously considering Texas Tech because of their short duration of the program (most complete in 6-8 months) and their good reputation. Please let me know. Thanks!

The first day of orientation was the full day and only half of the second day. I forget exactly what they go over, but from what I can remember: financial aid info, class registration info, you get to meet many of the instructors/classmates.... I do remember there is a IT part where you meet with the IT people and they show you how to log into the different websites you will need to turn in homework/register for classes/research for papers, etc. They give you software that is covered by your tuition also. I do remember a lot of people had questions during the IT session, which can be frustrating if you are already familiar with Blackboard and CINAHL or other databases. So, if you aren't strong in that area it would be beneficial.

I do remember them stating that orientation was being recorded... even though they were insistent that attending it in person was mandatory. They made a big deal about everyone speaking into the microphone or repeating questions into the microphone that we raised from the audience. You may want to call them and verify that you must be present. I think we had 2 people in my class that were from Hawaii, so who knows!

About the other classes you need.... I had attented a Tarrant County Community College prior to going to Tech. TCC covers a large county with many different campuses so there are many course offerings online. Each campus will have their own online offerings. They usually fill up first so you need to be sure and register on the first thing in the morning (Central time) on the first day of registration or you may have to call the registrars office to see if they will allow for additional students (it can happen). Most all community colleges in Texas will offer those courses online and should transfer no problem. Dallas County Community College District is also a large organization so they may offer what you need online through one of their many campuses. Those are the only suggestions I have because I am only familiar with what was offered in the Dallas/Fort Worth areas.
