Certifications? Immunization?

i'm just beginning to look into the nursing occupation as a possible career path... What types of peripheral certifications are needed to enroll, or if youre enrolled what do you need to keep valid?

and how many shots am i going to need?!?! I don't mind poking... but i hate being the pokee!

Hi!

Every nursing program is individual, but I can tell you what I needed. I needed a BLS (basic life support) certification, which was a one day seminar for me, about six hours - it was very interesting, and easy.

After that, I needed a PPD test to see if I had been exposed to tuberculosis. I also needed immunizations for MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), Hepatitis B (a series of 3 shots), Varicella (chicken pox) or a titre to prove that I was immune (I wasn't, because I've never had it before) and a CBC (complete blood check) and urinalysis. Other than that, there was a simple physical that I had to go over with my doctor, to prove that I was capable of the work.

Hope that helps you!

excellent, so it's more of a program thing. Thanks for your help!

I needed a physical, along with 3-series HepB (or positive titer), titer levels for MMR, varicella (needed booster, even though I had it BAD as a kid), diptheria, pertussis (actually needed a booster), a tetorifice booster, and a 2-step PPD for TB.
