I haven't seen any recent information regarding admission to USM. I'm a current USM (Gulf Park) student, taking my last class & lab and have applied to the BSN for the Fall 2017 semester. I will have to post an update as to if I actually get in. We are supposed to find out mid-March. Fingers Crossed!!

My current GPA is roughly 3.3 - 3.6; My ACT Score was 22 and my Kaplan was 81. As far as the Kaplan entrance exam is concerned...there are 91 questions broken down into 4 sections. You can look it up online to see each section and how long they give you. Unless you are a terribly slow reader, it will take you half of the time to take the test. It's a work-at-your-own-pace type test but you will be cut off after the certain time limit. Otherwise, you just Click "End Section" and move on to the next. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR OWN LAPTOP! You will be turned away if you don't bring a laptop. Also, make sure it has the proper software on it. They allow calculator, paper and pencil on desk with laptop. Other than that, bags/books/purses can just be on the floor under your chair.

The Kaplan study guide was a waste of money. (I think it costs about $20 or less if you still want to get it though.) The reading and critical thinking sections have articles to read and then questions to answer. The Math section is crazy easy. Basic arithmetic. Be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. You have a calculator. There are maybe 2 or 3 problems where you have to add a little critical thinking in there and think for a second. There were a couple of questions that had something about giving medications or injections. Don't let these problems freak you out because you haven't had training in how to give medications or shots! Just break it down to the math! The dreaded Science Section: This one obviously is the hardest part. This section actually has a few questions that you just wouldn't really know unless you've been in some sort of medical training. It is primarily physiology. Study up on the body systems from your A&P Classes. I don't recall anything about the integumentary, skeletal or the muscular systems being on there.

Just thought I'd share a bit! I also have heard it is easier to get in during the Spring semesters and that they are more likely to take current students than students trying to come from other schools. However, I'm a big proponent of not "listening" to other people and just trying to do my best. You never know what can happen - you won't go anywhere if you don't try!
