Zofran for pregnancy hyperemesis

Published

My daughter is 5 months pregnant and still vomits 3-4 times a day. Her Gyn subscribed Zofran half a pill once a day, which helps, but I don't trust the Gyn, does she really care about my grandson's future health. Does anyone know of a success story of a pregnant woman taking Zofran the whole pregnancy?

Does your daughter have allergies to anything?

According to the Medication book it should only be used PRN with pregnancy because it blocks the serotonin..............

Maybe she continues to vomit because she is allergic to the medication?

Hyperemesis that late in prenancy makes me believe that she is reacting to something else.... has she tried stopping the medication for a few days & seeing if the vomiting stops? or slows?

Its only listed as "Possibly safe" for pregnancy!

Watch for constipation & stomach cramping, that is whats listed as the classic side effects when used for pregnancy...

Web md reports that : should be used only PRN with pregnancy.... Its generally used for cancer patients to help w/ the nausea from chemo............ its strong...

unsure of its harm or non harm to the baby....

important: effects are dose dependent. expensive intravenous therapies may sometimes be avoided if higher doses are used. best taken on a strict schedule and weaned very slowly when asymptomatic for over two weeks. it is not uncommon for women to require this medication until delivery. different brands may have different effects.
