Hi,
I posted this on the midwifery forum but it's not very dynamic on there. Do any of you know how many yrs some nurses you have known worked in L&D before they felt comfortable enough to become a nurse-midwife??? or do you plan on going that route & how long do you plan on working in L&D? Thanks bunches & God bless you!!!!

i know a few nurse midwives and a couple of them said they got in a few years experience in L&D then became midwives, one got in only a year and started her schooling for it which took 19 months, and one who didnt even work L&D, but ent to school for nurse-midwife. hope that helps

I know some midwives who had less tha one year land d experience. They all seemed very low on confidence and skill. Two of them even waited a year before getting jobs as midwives.
If It Were Me, I Think That I Would Get At Least 3-4 Years Of L&d Experience And Then Go For Nurse Midwife And Then You Can Be More Skilled And Confident.
i agree. i feel that i want to work in postpartum for at least a yr, & AT LEAST 3 in L&D. I just didn't know if that sounded like too little. i don't think i could ever do it with just 1 yr experiece. craziness! thanks for your input guys!
