I am happy to announce that my NICU has been able to go two years without a CLABSI. It is an amazing accomplishment.

What are you guys doing to go this long? We usually manage to make it around 45 days or so before we get another one

IVs are assessed every hour. Central line tubing and continuous drip tubing is changed (sterile procedure) every 5 days. Lipid and med tubing is changed (clean change) every day. We utilized tri-fuse extensions between the central line and the tubing. All unused ports and med line needle-less caps are capped with Curos alcohol caps, which are changed whenever the line is done being accessed.

Unfortunately, a few days after my initial post, we had our first CLABSI. Over 3000 central lines without a CLABSI.

We do all those same things as well. I was a little harsh with saying 45 days. Our longest ever was 130 days, which we just had another one so we're back to 0. I wonder what the variance is.
