Hi everyone!
I'm still pretty new, and want to get to know everyone, so I thought I would pose this question...
What has your journey to nursing school consisted of?
I had toyed with being a nurse or Dr for awhile, but I really enjoyed politics when I started college. Then my family was hit with multiple health issues. I posted a question on why you wanted to be a nurse yesterday that detailed them, so you can look there if you want to know lol. I had my last day at my 9-5 job on friday, and starting on the 24th of march I will be taking a CNA class. I am currently volunteering at the childrens hospitl by my house, and I am hoping to obtain employement as a CNA there after I complete the class. I am going to be taking prereq's till spring 09, and will hopefully start NS then.
I'm curious to see everyones answers!

So far my journey to NS has been pretty good. I am very religious and I asked God what was my calling in life. I got my answer when I had my son 4 years ago. I knew then without a doubt that I was destined to be a nurse. I have been a CNA for several years but was always nervous about going back to school at all, for any career let alone nursing school, but once I got my answer I went for it. I have now been accepted into the program at my school to begin Fall 08. By the end of the summer semester I will be done with my prereqs. I can say I have had some tough classes like A&P1 that I am taking now, but all-in-all I am enjoying this journey.

I have always wanted to be a nurse. When other girls were playing house I was playing hospital. As I got older my dad always told me I was a pretty girl, and should find a nice guy. I was never given the option to go to college because I was a girl. When I brought it up I was shot down. I am only 38 so this wasn't that long ago....the mid 80's.
Anyway, my journey consisited of a bad marriage, 3 wonderful boys, divorce, finding out I could follow my dream without approval from others, and starting college. Actually my parents are behind me now. I think my dad finally realized I would better at nursing than choosing husbands lol.
I have fit right into college, and most the time loved it. There have been all night study sessions, and times when I had no idea how I would make it. There have been periods of financial stress, and times when I would hit a brick wall, and suddenly realize it wasn't such a tall wall after all. I have made wonderful life long friends, and even if it all ended here it has been 100% worth it. I am so much wiser and smarter than when I started.
I applied to a nursing program last semester with a min amount of points, and didn't get in. I was heartbroken, and got right up, and kept going. I just applied again with a lot more points (that I feel really good about), and in April I will hopefully get the great news.
In psychology class my professor once told us that its all about the journey. He explained that in college as in life its not really as much about what your learn, but about staying the course. Thats what seperates the winner from the losers. I honestly believe that, and at times it's been hard, but I am a stronger woman for it.

Senior year 2ndsemester of HighSchool I completed my CNA class (2003). I took a year off of school to work as a CNA (never found a job as a CNA [unless it required cleaning poop at a nursing home] so I worked at a store). March of the next year (2004) found a CNA job at a clinic and worked there whilst going to a CommunityCollege. Did prereqs for 3yrs - dropped out of a semester b/c I got into a car accident in which my neighbor crashed into my parked car. Then found out i didn't get into the college of nursing of my 1stchoice. Couldn't concentrate on that b/c i had so many science courses and needed to do well if i was going to pursue nursing. So, I started applying to about 20 different nursing programs starting last fall (2007) [last semester of CC was May2007] and now I will start nursing school this fall. let me tell u it was quite a journey. It is now 2008 and i could have finished already since i starting CC in 2004, but hey i am only 23 (no kids no mortgage and support of bf and mother).
