Your desired specialty

It seems as though many people who enter nursing want to enter the ER or the Labor and Delivery unit because of the "cute babies." So I ask this question: what would you like to specialize in once you are a nurse?

I am in interested in the NICU and pediatrics. I also wouldn't mind labor and delivery.

Hoping that I get into NS by next fall, I was recently inspired to be an Oncology Nurse.

I'm interested in Labor and Delivery but not for the cute babies. I specifically want to do Mother-Baby/Postpartum because I like that its geared towards education and teaching the parents about their children, family bonding and their postnatal bodies. I also do like the patient population. I know most of my friends said they consider Postpartum to be pretty boring but I honestly think I'd love it. I think I'd also like to work antepartum, again for the patient population but also because pregnancy is always something that interested me. I'm not all that positive about NICU but I think I would give it a try and I'm not sure if I want to be in the delivery room however. I'm fully aware that pregnant women are complicated, things aren't always peachy, you have to be on your toes because babies get sicker faster than anyone else and that you often have to deal with many personal situations that your patient may bring into the hospital with them. I also wouldn't mind trying pediatrics.

I am most interested in pediatrics, although I will be happy and willing to work in L&D or OB. I don't want to work in critical care or the ER.

Psychiatric nursing. Of course I haven't started school yet, so that may change once I go through clinicals.

I'm not quite sure. I'm thinking about Critical care, whether it be PICU/ICU/NICU. My goal is Family Nurse Practitioner, which will allow me to do both adult and ped care. :redbeathe

I'm drawn to geriatrics, hospice, wound care, neurological and burn. I'm not ruling anything out but these are the most interesting at this point.

After much research (especially on this website) I feel like I would really enjoy working in NICU. I guess you never really know until you try it though, that's why everyone has recommended I try to do this rotation thing where you try 6 weeks in each area, I dont' know if that's after you become a nurse or part of clinicals or what though...
