Yes Virginia, there ARE nice nurses

I just finished working four 12's in a row. I had a bad bad day in the middle, where everything I did seemed to be wrong. But I drove home tonight tired to the bone, but content.

I hear so much about experienced nurses attitudes toward those of us who are newbies. (been on the floor on my own for a whopping 2 months) I read many posts from nurses who are unhappy with the people who work with them.

That isn't happening. My coworkers are VERY supportive. (yes, there are times when someone says something uncalled for, but we're all human, it isn't a constant thing...or even a common thing.) I LIKE the people I work with. Oddly enough, they seem to like me. Yes, its hard to climb up the steep side of the learning curve. There is SO VERY MUCH to learn. But I'm working with great people, my fellow nurses. I find myself joking with the doctors. I love my patients. It feels so nice to make a difference in someone's day, someone's big experience.

So...I want to represent the other side. The not eaten, not unhappy side. To students who are wondering...yes, it is worth the effort. To those of you who are experienced...I admire your experience, and the effort it took to get there. And I'm happy to being on my way to gaining that experience. WooHoo!

To some of my fellow newbies...if it is horrible where you are, go somewhere else. There are good units to work in...find one!

I have been at it a year and a half and would never have survived the transition had it not been for my wonderful:yeah:, AWESOME:bowingpur , supportive co-workers....they are ALWAYS willing to answer my million questions and quick to come to the rescue if I feel in over my head.

And best of all, they are GREAT nurses and keep me laughing even when I want to cry!

Thanks to all the experienced nurses who provide their knowledge, patience and support to us newbs!!!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah:

I agree! Everyone at my hospital is incredibly supportive! Not only that, but every single discipline there from OT-ST love to teach! It is so interesting to learn about things from another point of view!
