3 years contract in an agency

Published

Hi all! I am a new nurse here in America. I recently finished a 6 months contract at a Hospital in a Native American reservation but for 58 days now, my agency cannot find me a job. My funds are getting low.

I was reviewing my contract with them today and it says 156 weeks contract duration and starts the moment i started working for them here in US. Now i signed that contract September 2014. I got to the US Nov 9 2015. Got my first assignment March 7-September 10 2016. Then 6 months later (after my contract ends with that hospital i worked in) I am here unemployed waiting for their new assignment.

I am wondering if there is a breach of contract going on here already on the part of my agency? I am paying for my own food and rent. Is 2 months enough time to prove that my agency is not capable of providing me stable employment and that they should just let me go so i can earn a living and be able to pay my dues? According to their contract, they promised 36-40 hours work and I thought then that its a contract with just one hospital for 3 years. It turned out to be that they are marketing us as travel nurses and that means 3-6 months contract only per hospitals. They never mentioned that there will be periods like this.

I am really concerned about my funds now, living in a foreign country and i have no idea how immigrant nurses' rights works here.

Any advise is welcome. Thanks guys!
