Hi I have done my 3 year diploma in nursing from India. Now I am planning to do BSN from here in USA since I am here on my husband's H1B visa. Do i have to study the whole two years or will I be able to transfer some of the credits from my 3 year diploma from india. I reside in NJ.... Please advise as I am looking forward to earning the BSN degree....Do u know of any colleges that help in transferring most of the credits from the previous education???? I have passed my NCLEX exam and am an RN.

If you have a RN license in the US there are many RN to BSN programs. Some online and I would guess many in NJ on campus. If you do not have a RN License, you will have to go to a college and have your transcripts evaluated by the school, the process will be more difficult. You will have to follow the normal college admission process of taking the SATs , college essay etc.

Since you already have passed the NCLEX exam, it means that you have a license, or have met the requirements but are waiting for one to be issued once you have a SSN#.
If you went for initial licensure in NJ, that means that you already have completed the CES, if you did it not too long ago and after they removed the requirements of the actual CGFNS exam; then you just need to apply to some programs there for the RN-BSN and see where you get accepted to. We have both on-line as well as traditional style programs that can be done.
Best of luck to you.
I passed my NCLEX through Vermont. I just passed... I am not sure of how the further procedure would be. But I reside in NJ. Will I be able to transfer the license to NJ even if I didnot have an SSN?
NJ requires a SSN number - exceptions.
The reason for the SSN is many reasons, one it helps to determine if you are legally able to work.
The second reason is for the state to collect money owed, for example if I did not pay my state taxes my license would be denied. If you don't pay child support they would deny me a license.
I see on the Vermont web page a social security number is mandate if a foreign graduate, I am assuming you don't have a VT license.
I think the states are using foreign graduates to generate income since many won't issue a license without a SS number. Think about it.
Hi sorry to confuse you. The question regarding not having SSN was for my friend. She is yet to get her NCLEX certification done. She has applied thru Vermont and in the application since she didnot have an SSN she didnot write it and the form also says to leave it blank if you do not have.
Now everything has been approved for her to take the exam.
Are you telling that at the time when she passes her exam she will not receive the license because she doesnt have a license.
What will be her next option? Can she transfer it to somewhere else where she do not need a SSN to have her license issued???
All the programs RN to BSN require RN license, no SSN = No license therefore no program. But your friend can research eat schools web site. My guess it that you are expected to be able to practice as a RN and not having a license means you can not practice.
Thank you for your quick reply. I am sorry if I am making you repeat myself.. Will she be issued with a RN license from Vermont even if she doesnt have a SSN?

You do NOT need a SSN to be issued a Vermont RN License.

VT does issue a hard license without a SSN#. At least they do right now, but that can always change.

To get a license in NJ, you will have to complete the CES in most cases, and just follow the requirements for the License by Endorsement process.

Hi me too a nurse who has 3 year diploma in india. I also have 2 years work experience. I am preparing for my NCLEX exam. I am here with my husband who is on H1B visa. I have already applied thru Vermont to take me exam and have got the ATT to write the exam. Since the waiting for GC is going to be long I am planning to earn the BSN degree.
I had some questions regarding the degree and also immigration:
1) I happened to read about the BSN program that New Jersey University has. Is that a certified one? Anybody who has done that? I am sorry if I am acting foolish but I am new to this country so want to check with people who have experience and the knowledge.
2) I have heard about the Visa screen. If I pass the BSn thru NJU will that mean that I will be waived of the English exam which is one of the requirement for Visa Screen?
3) If I had an employer who is ready to sponsor and he starts the process, how long will it take to receive the work permit?

I think if your training was obtained in the US then you are waivered the English exams but Suzanne will be more precise. Will still need VSC but even if you find an employer there is no way at the moment for you to work in the US due to retrogression and no way to adjust your status.
