Yale vs Samuel Merritt

Published

Hello,

I have been accepted into Yale's GEPN program for FNP and have interviewed with Samuel Merritt's ELMSN FNP program (still waiting for my admissions decision). I'm not sure if I'll actually get into Samuel Merritt just yet but I am hoping to get some advice on which to choose if I do, as I am so torn. A little background about me and my goals, I'm from California and both my family and partner are here in the Bay Area. I hope to practice at one of the following places: Kaiser, Sutter Health, Stanford, and UCSF after graduation and would like to attend a program that will give me the highest chance at working in one of these medical centers.

Yale GEPN

Pros: Ranked higher, shorter program (3 years), possibility of doing the last 1-2 years back in California but was told by some students that I will be responsible for finding my own clinicals.

Cons: Far away from home, in CT (I prefer the city), might not get clinical experience/rotations in places I ultimately want to work at after graduation, not sure of job prospect back in the Bay Area since all of my clinical experience/rotations are in CT instead

Samuel Merritt ELMSN FNP

Pros: In the Bay Area, heard that the school has affiliations with the places I hope to work at after graduation so I'll have the opportunity to possibly do clinicals there

Cons: Not as prestigious as Yale, longer program (3.5 years)

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
