Hello there,
Sorry that this is another one of those annoying post, but I would really appreciate your input on whether I may have a good chance of getting into Yale. I will be graduating from a private liberal arts college this Spring with a 3.5 GPA and a 3.7 in my major (Health and Exercise Science). I think I am most nervous about my grades in the folowing:
A&P I- A-
A&P II- B+
Stats- B+
Bio 105 (Intro)- B
Micro Bio- A-
both Chem I and Chem II - B-
I know there are no official prereqs, but I am sure they look at these scores. I think what sets me a part is my internship experience. I have participated in a "Professional Medical Internship" and a "Nursing Internship" here at my school and have accumulated 50 hours following nurses and 75hrs following NPs, PAs, and Physicians in areas including: med surg, PACU, endoscopy, renal/urology, ortho, cardiac, scrubbed in the OR, and ambulatory care. I also volunteer in the ER and have been doing so for over a year. I will be applying for Fall 2012 entry as I was just hired to teach English in Vietnam for a year (will this help my resume?). I'll be applying while I am there though. Please give me ANY feedback. Thank you for your time.

I think you sound competitive. A lot hinges on your recommendations, your essay, and your chosen specialty, however. Also, you didn't mention your GRE score - but if its in their range of competitive scores, you definitely stand a chance. I know Yale values the essay quite a bit, and if you have a good one, explaining why you chose your specialty, then you should definitely at least be in the running :)
I haven't taken the GRE as of yet. I plan to do so this summer. I'll definitely be sure to put in a lot of time on the essay. It's helpful to know that they weight those fairly heavily. Thanks so much for your help!

Honestly it's really hard to say. The GRE is just one of many components they look at, so there's probably a somewhat decent variety of scores amongst admitted applicants.
Very true. Also, the only thing that Yale officially states regarding GRE scores is "While we have no official GRE minimums, we consider a score of 500 on the verbal and quantitative sections and 4.0 on the Analytical Writing to be competitive. However, applicants are neither accepted nor denied solely based on GRE scores."

I'll share mine if you PM me. I know a lot of schools in the same caliber as Yale have average scores of between 1100-1300 (OHSU for example). Good luck! Since school doesn't start till August I'm happy to answer any more questions :)

I too am thinking about applying to their GEPN program for next fall. I think your Grades and overall academic profile look very competitive. The iternship that you have will definitely display committment to researching the field and understanding why you want to pursue your chosen path. Don't forget that the GRE is changing in August! Hopefully you take it before 8/1 or you'll have to take the revised test (which is going to be SO different I hear!) Good luck!
