Hello all,

Let's start this 2020 application cycle thread. Anyone will be applying this Summer?

I'll probably take my NCLEX late April/early May

You are so sweet to give us all this information. And thank you for breaking down your grades. I feel like there’s a low chance I will get in. My SAT scores are actually the exact same as yours. I have a 2.98 from UNCG from 12 years ago. I started my prerequisites again in the fall and I have one C (horrible jerk prof for my first class back), four A’s, and a B (GPA 3.48). So I would love to have a shot at this!

I also apply to Northeastern University and Charlotte. I feel like I have a higher chance of getting in there. But the cost of tuition is staggering.

do you or many people in the Winston Salem State program use loans to get through school? I have a PR in job as well but have three kids (no partner- but lots of family support) and will Have to get loans. ? I read that Winston Salem State has limited financial aid guidance.

and fingers crossed for everyone else! I would love to see you guys in January! It’s going to be a long 2 1/2 months waiting for a reply. For those of you who ask, I’ve been emailing with --------------------- and she said we would know mid October.

@Ashlee Clark- One last question for you. Are you guys meeting in person now? For classes I mean? I know there is no option when you have to do clinicals. I wonder what it’ll be like in the fall/Winter when the flu season hits in addition to Covid!

@SPikett I imagine over half of us are using loans. I use about $1000 per semester in loans. Financial aid is rough, everybody has their own experiences, but I've had my own horror stories with them & unfortunately there is a poor reputation with communication/completeness from their end. One thing to consider is everybody has a $57,000 max for Federal undergraduate loans. I took out about $25k in federal loans for my first BS degree (not including my accumulated interest). So I could still get $22,000 for this second bachelors if my financial situation warranted it. We are doing everything virtual/zoom right now (class, clinical, lab) since March 13th. We will go in person 1-2 days a week starting September 8th (first fall class block) and I believe we will begin to go to clinical also. We only went to clinical in person 2 full days before everything shut down. Im grateful they didn't stop our program and adapted to a virtual method. That way our program length wasn't extended. It kinda worked out great for me bc I'm a commuter so I didn't have to drive out to WS weekly.

Thanks again! I would love for part of it to still be online. I will be commuting about 45 minutes away. I didn’t realize you hadn’t gone back for clinicals! I work in a hospital and I just started seeing students coming back about a month ago.

Do you know anything about Northeastern University‘s program?

I'm not familiar with their program at all

Hi everyone I recently applied to WSSU and got accepted into the university. I also applied already for the ABSN program. Now I am worried I applied too early and my application might not get considered. All of the admissions staff that I have spoke with have given me different dates and confused me. Should I reapply? Have you guys already applied to the ABSN program?

Also I work at Brenners and live in the Clemmons area but looking to get a roomate to save money when classes begin, if I get in. Are there facebook pages that are specific to WSSU students looking for roomate?

I am planning on going PRN at work and I have read some responses saying that picking up some shifts is pretty doable while in the program, but are some of you planning on getting loans? I have never borrowed more than 2,000 for school so I am worried about getting out too much in loans.

Hello I don’t think you should reapply I spoke to ---------------------- who is one of the nursing program coordinators and she told me I was good to apply on July 5th when I saw the University application was open on the 1st. I have spoken to her before and she is very trustworthy so I assume things are just different because of the school year and Covid-19. I too have been accepted into the University.

How long did it take you to be accepted? I applied two weeks ago to both the program and the university itself, but my transcripts still marked "missing" even though they received them about two weeks ago. I emailed admissions, but they sent a generic response.

The application to the program opened not too long ago, so I am sure that you are fine and don't have to reapply. Good luck!

I got accepted in like a month but it was a headache!! I had to call so many people because there were so many people on vacation and working from home due to COVID so they kept saying they didn’t have my transcripts put in. I kept calling until someone did it for me because originally I was told I would get a decision in 2 weeks and then I could apply to the program after.

Good luck to you as well, thanks for the info!

Awesome thank you so much!!

Yeah I am not sure what's going on this year but I specifically asked in July when I saw the application was open online and they gave the all-clear so I'm rolling with it. There's another forum I am also apart of and there were people who also applied in July. This is my second time applying and unfortunately this miscommunication isn't new.

I have heard LOL but thank you!

I applied to the school. Then applied to the program. I forwarded the confirmation of payment to the nursing application department. They literally confirmed with an “OK!” LOL then about a week later I emailed to ask if I needed to do anything else. I specifically asked if I had to do anything else with application to the school. The question wasn’t answered. They responded but didn’t address that question. I’m praying it is all OK!

@Alicia Andrews- what other forums are you in? I feel like I need more info!! As I’m on pins and needles as I’m waiting until Oct!!
