how to become a wound care consultant?

hi! to become a consultant you have to take the certification exam. if you have a bsn you can take classes from several schools around the county. i am currently taking classes from webwoc. it is an online program. the would portion is a three week class. then you have to do 50 hours of clinical time with a certified wound care rn. after that you can sit for the certification exam.

it is a little intensive but vey worth it when you are done. i am doing wound, ostomy and continence certification. then i plan on opening a consulting business.

i hope you get certified. we need lots of educated and certified wound care nurses out there.

i am a new nurse with 2 year exp. in ltc. associate degree, i almost finished prerequiate of my bsn progm, and will go to the major class soon. i plan to take the wound care certificatein feb. or mar.hopefully i can pass it. i heard it is very intensive, and will finish everything in four days, and the fifth day is the test. maybe it's helpful read some books ahead? i know there are lots of organizations to choose to do the seminar, which is better in terms of learn more things and professional? any suggestions would be very appreciate. it is really a wonderful website, we can share thoughts and get help, encouragement, i will be here often.

What website are you looking at? Is is a school? Just interested to take a look at it too.

That sounds like WCEI ( Wound Care Education Institute). It's an intensive four day program with test on the fifth morning to become a WCC. You don't need a BSN for this program. Even LPN's can take it. Classes are held all over the country.

I took it in 2005. The certification is good for ten years.

I thought it was well worth the money!

Hi! everyone. I know when to measure a wound, from head to toe direction is the length, and from side to side is the width. but sometimes i am confused if a wound is irregular shaped. let's say this wound on the front leg is triangular -shaped, we call it ABC ( to make it easiler to describe) A is the top point, point B and C are on both sides. line AB is longer than line AC. so how do you measure its length? the length will be from point A to where? how to measure the width?

another question: sometimes a wound's length can be shorter than its width, right? thanks so much for help!:balloons:

Measuring, I think, depends on the institution where you work. We measure 12:00 to 6:00 and 3:00 to 9:00. If it is irregular we try, using those perameters, to included the largest area of the wound.

You don't have to be in the dead center when you measure, just as long as you are consistent in how you measure.

Yes, a width can be longer than a length.

I'm not really clear on what you mean by consultant. Are you thinking of starting your own business? As a WCC, you can do that and I guess you would be considered a consultant.

How did you like the WebWOC program? I have my WCC so will not need to take the wound portion. When I inquired, they said you needed 100 hrs of clinical...maybe this was changed since you took it? How did the course run? Could you take them at your leisure or were they scheduled? I work full time so just wondering how I could fit it in.
