Worried, Should I be?

Published

I am a newbie NP. Just graduated and moved cross country with the hubby. I left a city where I had offers from my clinical sites to work immediately and even offers from my employer where I was working. I was confident I could apply and have oodles of offers once I moved.

In the meantime I accepted an RN job and studied for my boards. I thought I would wait until I had all my ducks in a row before embarking on my NP job hunt. I passed my boards, obtained my license and paid for my DEA then sent out about 20 applications. I applied for NP roles with my current hospital along with others I thought I would be a good fit for. I was excited to get going.

The facility recruiters started calling and setting up prescreen calls and all were very optimistic I would called by the individual practices for a formal interview. Then the phones just died! I reconnected with the recruiters and would get the "they went with another candidate" or "they decided not to bring you in".

I again searched and reapplied with a whole new slew of applications and it was like groundhog day - NADA! I am to the point where I think I may never work as an NP and even considering returning home where jobs are still available if I want them.

I am one of the last of my graduating class that has not accepted a job offer as an NP. I am not sure if I should just keep doing what I am doing - since it has not worked to this point or maybe move back home for a year, but I don't want to be separated from my husband. Can I get a locums job as a new grad?

So frustrating as I read on here about people receiving multiple offers and all my friends from school having positions before leaving school. Not really sure what my next move should even be...

Any suggestions??

How long has your job search been going on for? I know that I was stressing right after I graduated and passed my boards as well because I took my test a month or so later than my peers and also started searching for a job much later than they did.

Thought I would take a minute to update...after a slow start to mu job search things got busy quick with multiple interviews in all sorts of places. I accepted a position this week and I could not be any happier. My salary and incentives are far more than I thought I would get and I snapped up the offer at once.. I landed my dream job without holidays, weekends or call and it is 2 miles from my front door!! Just thought I would share the happy!!!

Congratulations! I'm very happy that your long search was not for nothing =)

Happy, you must be hm hm
