I was just looking to hear stories from anyone on how to work, be a mom and go to school.
I work full time 8-5, while my daughter goes to daycare. I can't find a night program other than MCI, (which I just have bad feelings about). If I quit my job and go to school full time, I won't be bringing in any income but still have to pay daycare. Another impossibility. I can try to find an evening job, I just am not having any luck. I am a medical assistant, and our positions aren't usually evening ones. Plus my husband is Navy so if he is shipped out I am really in trouble.
Is it impossible?
Any suggestions?
Help!
Thanks
Laura

I would do some research.. A lot of military wives are able to get assistance paying tuition.. Check into next step, i know they help pay for your books.. Im not sure where you are but I know Riverside has an evening part time rn program, but its 3yrs... It can be done, you just need a lot of support.

Laura, I would do as the other user suggested and look into nexstep fpr tuition assistance. Im not sure if Sentara has a night program, I know u can take classes at TCC at night to work toward ur RN or PN whichever u choose first. And to back up MCI, Im currently a student there and my great experiences there far outweigh my bad experiences(i finish up in Nov). No matter what school you attend youre going to come across some bad days. Im not gonna complain because their PN nclex pass rate is high. Im finishing up my PN at MCI and then starting at Sentara in January for my RN. The only downside for me is the pricetag but because ur a navy wife u should be able to get help. Anyways, good luck with that!

It can be done. i worked full time, went to school at night, and am a mother too. It took some sacrificing, but when I passed the NCLEX it was well worth it! I went to MCI in VB and graduated this past March. I had some really great instructors, and learned alot, and had some bad experiences too. I was lucky in regard that my boss let me change my hours in order to accomodate going to school in the evening. Check into the programs available for military spouses. Good luck!!

Are you going for the associates degree? Have you got all your pre-reqs out of the way? I am in SW Va and my community college has online/distance education classes that are offered..I figured I can probably take at least 6 or 7 of the required classes at home before I even step foot on campus-and the credits are good for a lifetime! I hope to begin the oncampus stuff when little one goes to preschool/kindergarten next year. Then I can get a weekend job or a job that works around my school schedule.

MCI does have evening programs. I am applying there right now. I will be taking day classes. However, I may have to start working again, so I am also considering Excelsior College. They are an online school. Check out the distance learning thread, there are several graduates and students there of Excelsior. www.excelsior.edu is the website. Good luck!

I go to MCI (RN) Program, I work FT and I am a Mom. I look at it like this....it will be a difficult journey for the time you are in, but before you know it, the end will be there. Get your support in line now. Plus we all help each other out. Good Luck to you!
