Hi All,
I am seriously considering an offer to work in the Mercy Heath System. I love that they are so committed to helping the poor, but I am concerned about working for a Catholic hospital when it comes to reproductive rights and end of life issues. Has anyone worked in this system before? I know that Plan B and abortions are prohibited, but what about patient teaching and referrals if a patient wants information about what their options are?
thanks

Graduated from their LPN program in 1977 and involved off and on over 30 years.... credit first postiion at Mercy Philadelphia with launching me on a successful career; many of staff RN's I worked with in 79 are still employed there now as Managers, one even became VP Patient Services. Re your concerns: List/info provided about alternate providers in the area including planned parenthood clinics.

Just as an FYI - Mercy is now part of the UPMC system, so some of their policies have probably changed.
Best of luck to you!

There are several "Mercy" hospitals in PA...not all are affiliated.

I worked for Mercy Suburban as a Pat Registar....My medical plan would not allow birth control or anything like that...They are very prohibitive in that respect.....
