Hi,
A lot of the hospitals in UK have what is called adaptation courses which will have a lead nurse facilitating, if you know which hospital you want to work then contact human resources and they will be able to advice.
Hey thank you for all of your advice.. as far as adaptation courses does everyone have to take? or is it dependent on your years experience? What does the adaptation course entail as in time?

the nmc will probably have something to say about your adaptation and experience will be taken into account but this also enables you to get experince without pressure on nursing in another country
There are a couple of US nurses on here who have done what you are going to do they can give you better advice than any of us brits. I will look through a couple of threads and find out their names and you could pm them.
Hi Back again,
The RN you need to contact is KAYLESH here is a link to a previous thread re US nurses coming to UK https://allnurses.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98891

Hi I am new to this, but do you realise the NMC have introduced a new requirement all nurses wanting to come and work in UK will need to do 20 days supervised practice AND english language exam! Except nurses that come from the EU.
Also, where does this fit for nurses who are not eligible to work in UK on a working holiday visa and require a work permit.
Any thoughts?

this is going to be phased in from Sept 2005, this is what the NMC says
The Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP) sets out common entry standards, a compulsory 20-day period of protected learning for all nurses trained outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and, where appropriate, a period of supervised practice.
it only says where appropriate a period of supervised practice. My interpretation is they are protected by having 20 days protected learning so instead of being thrown in at the deep end they are given some time to get to understand hopefully how the UK healthcare system works. It would be interesting to hear what sort of items will be on the protected learning programme
Ha ha so the nurses from EU dont need to do english language exam. Mmmmmmmmm didnt know they spoke English as a First language or even second language.
And a nurse from say... Canada will have to? That would be incredibly stupid.
