Hello, I am a student from Purdue University Northwest and was wondering if there was nurses out there working in nursing informatics and could answer a few questions for me. I am supposed to interview someone working in informatics and I thought nursing informatics was very interesting, considering I want to become a nurse, not knowing this field even existed until recently. I was wondering what degree is needed, how did they get into this career choice, a project they worked on that you felt proud to do, benefits of the job, downside of the job. I would also like to know any other information that you have to give about this field of nursing. Thank you for your time!

I am not an informatics nurse, but do work closely with a few. There are schools that offer a masters degree with a focus in informatics, but there are jobs that don't require the MSN.

You may want to reach out to local facilities- I'm sure there are many nurses who would be happy to discuss their career over a cup of coffee (your treat) plus the face to face part can more easily allow for more exploration a little easier than the delayed back and forth of electronic communication.
