The woman who received a new face in a groundbreaking transplant operation is holding her first news conference at a hospital in northern France. "I have now have a face like everyone else," Isabelle Dinoire told reporters today. The 39-year-old French mother of two made headlines around the world in late November when she became the first person to undergo a face transplant operation.
I read an interview she made where she said if it wasn't for the nurses she doesn't think she would make it.

Are there any pictures anywhere of what she looked like before the transplant? It would be interesting to see the extent of her disfigurement and compare what she looks like now.

I'm not sure what she looked like before, but I am happy that something good came out of a bad situation. I hear the donor was a victim of suicide. At least a part of that young woman was able to live on.

It's the picture in the background.
Wow, thanks... how awful. I'm so glad that she has this chance to live again.
Does anyone else find it odd to sleep through your dog chewing your face off? I know it says she took meds and passed out, but gosh...

I wonder how deep the transplant went, and how much muscle was replaced. A skin graft is one thing, without function of the nerves and muscle, the new face is basically a mask, aint it?

She's still smoking like a freight train, i'm wondering how she's able to do that.

Ha, yes, we just had this discussion! I mean you have to be pretty blitzed to not notice your dog's chewing your face off!! Add that to the fact that she smokes like a fiend, and prior to the attack she was depressed & suicidal, & she doesn't sound like a good candidate-- never mind motivated to help herself in any way!! The only reason she noticed her face being chewed was she didn't have LIPS to put her cigarette between when she woke up from her stupor & tried to light one up!! I am hearing that the french just wanted to be first to try this procedure. Too bad she doesn't seem too appreciative of her 2nd chance! It's very sad that she may hinder her own healing & chance of a better life b/c of her own poor choices.
