wolford and accreditation

Published

hello I'm and aspiring crna in Alabama. I will be applying to schools this early summer. I have read numerous threads on here and on wolfords site that they have the coa cert but are awaiting a fall inspection into the sacs portion this happens to be a school in my top three. Does anyone have any additional information on this topic for me? I emailed the director to also inquire about this but just wanted to reach out and see if anyone else knows anything on the matter?

They have COA, but lack regional accreditation. New COA standards require regional accreditation. According to the COA website, the COA is supposed to visit Wolford this spring and will post their decision in the fall. Back when I was interested I tried emailing the director and other Wolford staff, but didn't get any responses. I'm sure they're inundated with the same question very frequently.

I'm sure they would accept you, but if their accreditation is pulled while you're matriculating nobody knows what will happen after that. They're required to provide a "teach-out" plan "within reason," per the COA, but nobody knows what exactly that would entail. It could be letting students finish or sending them to a different program. Being sent to a different program to finish is a slippery slope because courses will not transfer since legally schools are not supposed to transfer in courses from institutions that lack regional accreditation.

The point is that there is a lot of uncertainty about the future of this program, and nobody really knows what is going to happen. Probably not even the school itself at this point. If I were in your shoes I would either look elsewhere or wait until after the re-accreditation process is completed. I mean don't get me wrong, graduating from Wolford does = CRNA, but it's not worth the risk of being sent home with student loans and courses that won't transfer anywhere else. Just wait it out.
