WE SEEM TO HAVE MORE AND MORE WITHDRAWING BABIES.....USUALLY METHADONE. WHAT DO OTHER UNITS DO FOR SKIN CARE TO THE DIAPER AREA??? THEIR LITTLE BOTTOMS GET SOOOO RED AND OFTENTIMES BLEED DUE TO FREQUENT LOOSE STOOLS.
ANY IDEAS APPRECIATED

Our NPs will write for them to get the stomadhesive powder followed by the barrier cream prn. But honestly, the best fix I've found, if their condition allows for it, is to put them naked under a radiant warmer (skin probe attached of course) with their little butt where both heat and air can reach it for a couple hours. Some actually get really comfortable and fall asleep up there (for once!).
That is, of course, living dangerously, because those kids can poop for distance. :)

Exposure of the affected area and keeping it dry always - an excellent conservative management!

We use pinvax right off the bat because you know they are going to get a broken down butt!

i completely agree with the practice of open to air. My colleagues all know which are my babies because if my babies have red or broken bottoms, the butt is naked and heat lamp on.
