Has anyone gone through or know of anyone who went through Marquette's direct entry MSN program? Looking to get some information.

Thanks!

I am in it! What questions do you have?

Everything...lol!! When did you start, when will you finish (pre-MSN & MSN)? Did you pick your track yet? What about tuition....what kind of aid is available...does loans cover costs? Do you work while doing the program? Any information you could offer would be so helpful!!

Hi, I sent you a PM!

Hi Bree124 -

I have a lot of questions about Marquette! I have just been accepted to Marquette's Direct Entry Program. How do finances work out? How many hours a day are classes? How would you rate the rigor of the classes? Do you like the professors?

Thank you!

I got in too... but i am from the east coast, so would prefer to stay over here. But, just in case - i also wanted to know what the class size is like and does the program have a good reputation. I want to do ANP with a focus on addiction.

Hey i'm going to Marquette! Are there more classmates around here? I know there aren't that many of us - but i'd love to meet some people!!!!

Oops, sorry - didn't see this until now.

Financial aid should cover tuition and living expenses, unfortunately this is in the form of loans. Very minimal scholarship opportunities, at least for the RN portion. During the grad portion, you should be able to work as an RN and drastically reduce the amount of loans you need.

Classes are usually about 8 hours per day, four days per week, except the first summer you have class five days per week. This semester, I do have a 12-hour day, but it's the only time I've had that.

Classes seem to be good, nursing-wise, but I was a bit taken aback by how much theory there is. I was expecting more rigorous science classes. I would say that it is about what I was prepared for, difficulty-wise. You have to put in your hours outside of class, but if you're decently intelligent and study, you won't have a problem getting good grades.

Most of the professors are good. A couple are awful, and a couple are outstanding. The clinical instructors all have their MSN, which is good - some schools use BSN prepared nurses as clinical instructors.

I've really liked the experience so far, and have heard good things in the area about Marquette nurses. If you have more questions, feel free to email me at bree1124 at hotmail dot com.

Hello! I am starting in 11th cohort as well! I emailed you, bree1124, but I think it might have gone into your junk mail folder as it was a university email account. :)

I'm registering for classes- if you could reply to my email, that would be great!! Thanks so much!

Hey ktskinh! I am going too... i tried to register yesterday, but i couldn't get into the summer courses! I hope they have a meet and greet or something for the DE students, as I'm looking forward to meeting my classmates!

Hi I'm hoping to get this message board going again:)

I'm applying for the Direct Entry Master's program at Marquette for this coming Summer (2010). Anyone else? What specialization? I'm going for Health Care Systems Leadership since I eventually want to combine nursing with a MHS or MPH.

Anyways, regarding the application process, can any current DEM students comment on how long and detailed their resume was? Was yours longer than one page typed?

A career advisor on my campus told me to include relevant coursework from my undergraduate degree, but I really don't see the point because this program is designed for people from diverse academic backgrounds. Thoughts?

I am currently in Marquette's DE program. My resume was one page typed. I used my resume to highlight experiences that weren't highlighted elsewhere in my application. I don't know about including the coursework because they will already have your transcripts. If you had courses that were nursing focused or focused toward the specialty you want to pursue it might be worth including. If you want to send me your resume and essays I would be glad to look at them and give you my feedback. Good luck!
