Does anyone know about the nursing program at Herzing College in Madison? I am currently a prenursing student at uw madison finishing up my preqreqs, I have had trouble deciding on whether to get my adn at a tech college or at Herzing College (which would begin this summer). However, i would be leaving the uw which is so competitve to get into. I don't know if i should get my adn and work as an rn and then go back to get my bachelors or stay with the 4 yr college (which will be longer than4 years). any advice would be great, I am in my second year here. Thanks

I was interested in Herzing a while ago and I just felt like I was being harassed by the "admissions counselor". It was very much a sales pitch and they were very pushy. I am instead applying to Cardinal Stritch. I have meet a lot of their professors etc and I LOVE it. It is expensive but most schools around Milwaukee are.

First Of All People... Every Person.. And Every Situation And Every School is different. There are not all the same.. not the same teachers. Secondly in WI. the school has reached its Accreditation that it did not yet.. have in 08.You could not pay me money.. to attend a county college that makes so.. much money off of all the pre requisites attached PRIOR to taking each and every class. That extend the class by an easy 2 years. I am going to Herzing. I will gladly..pay more in the end... For 2 years void of pre requisites that is a money maker for the County Colleges. I have no wait list. I will be done exactly in 2 years. I will not at Herzing have to take and re take math or allege bra. They don't require it! And.. low life people won't pay Herzing prices later on.. so that rules them out too.. So... to each is own!

i could find a way to justify the extreme cost (over 30 thousand) in that you can get in so much faster and easily make that in 1/2 a year......the issue is the stigma that comes with that degree from that college.

Go to one of the tech colleges if you can. Those other schools are WAY WAY too expensive and they just rip you off. In my opinion the best way to become a Registered Nurse is to get your ADN from a tech college and then if you decide you want to get your BSN, work some place that will help pay for it. If you go to one of those schools like Herzing, you will end up $30,000 in debt or more in some cases.

The problem with tech schools is that the one that is in my district has a 5 year wait. The other close tech school that is not in my district takes "in-district" students first, meaning a very long wait for me. I am not young anymore and couldn't wait. I'm in my second year at Herzing. There has been ups and downs, but they are determined to give a good nursing education and want you to succeed. It is $620 a credit, waaay expensive, but that includes books, which they LOVE to throw your way. They also use ATI, which has been helpful. The biggest issue has been instructor turnover after the first year. I don't regret Herzing yet since I feel I am getting a good education and will be done in the spring; but they still need organizing.

Oh, and the hospitals where I've done clinicals at have Herzing graduates and have said that they are happy with them.

Herzing College does not care about students, and that goes for all the programs there. They treat students like marks, like they're selling you a used car. The student's needs and quality of education are completely irrelevant at Herzing college. Their only interest, and I repeat, the ONLY interest at this "college" is TO GET YOUR MONEY. That's it, that's all they care about. There - now you've been warned. Avoid Herzing College, whatever program you may be interested in. Take the time to find another option, you will be much better off; better education and much cheaper can be found pretty much anywhere else.

Herzing College is for suckers.

Wow....pretty bitter post there Cathy10. I can't say much about the administration since I don't have to deal with them much, but I do know that the majority of the nursing instructors I have had have gone above and beyond to help their students learn. Being able to pass the boards and get a job is all that matters in the long run.
